La aparición de un pez agnato en la orilla de la ribera sur del río Renaico, provocó expectación, ya que hasta ese momento se desconocía su orígen y tipo de anfibio, considerando que en el citado lugar de veraneo es muy inusual ver este tipo de especies.
Al percaterse de la presencia del pez, el equipo de salvavidas lo depositaron en un recipiente mientras se tomaba contacto con el Sag quienes entregaron los antecedentes de rigor.

Segpun informaron de este servicio, se trata de un pez agnato conocida como la lamprea chilena (Mordacia lapicida) es una especie de la familia petromyzontidae, endémica del sur de Chile.
Su descripción específica presenta odontoides supraorales en dos placas simétricas separadas. Dientes dispuestos en 3 cúspides. Disco bucal papiloso y amplio rodeada de papilas excéntricas al disco, posee un gran desarrollo ocular. Estos ojos están en posición lateral-dorsal. Poseen una bolsa gular que se extiende hasta la séptima abertura de las branquias.
Puede llegar a medir unos 54 cm de longitud. En la etapa larval vive enterrada en ríos litorales migrando hacia el mar en invierno.
